January 2008 * The biggest highlight of January was when, over several windy and stormy days when our power was out, Chris Gibson the "veggie oil guy" came and worked wonders on our Ford F250 and now we are proud to say she runs on either BioDiesel or on straight, (filtered by us) reclaimed, restaurant veggie oil (that was on it's way to the dump!) YIPEEE!! * Got help to pour the concrete (sorry!) slab for our required 1,500 gallon water tank. (Can't begin building without that!) * Heard back from the county with the first round of questions about our house plans. Our design team Skillfull Means said none of the questions were too complicated or time consuming. (great news!)
December 2007 * Added a Trovita Orange, a Keiffir lime and a Bearss lime to our potted (hopefully not for much longer) fruit tree collection. * Found great source for horse manure, brought in two full truck loads *Johan continues to work tirelessly, including many cold and late nights out in "The Shop". So far two new doors, one window, and two walls have been added or moved, new siding has been attached to all of the exterior walls, a new attached lumber storage shed has been build and a 30 foot long attached "lean-to" has been added for outdoor workspace, sink space and storage! We always knew that all thos years of studying philosophy and horticulture would come in handy!
November 2007 * Got help digging trenches along the windward side of our property/neighbors fence for our upcoming planting of an edible, nitrogen fixing, wind resistant and beautiful wind/view break..
October 2007 * Courtney continued to madly forage for dropped chestnuts and walnuts in our neighborhood and beyond. *We sliced and dried copious amounts of persimmons to share with friends and family.
September 2007 * Replaced septic system for the dome * Added two Passiflora edulis (Passionflower) vines to our collection of citrus and other fruit trees *The summer foraging continues with a few blackberries, bushells of pineapple guavas, some remaining apples and...
